Dragon Farming - Guide on dragon drop (using new wiki knowledge, math included) (2024)

First thing first before starting, every info used in this thread come from the newly released wiki made by

pigicial

the hypixel staff and it's contributor. It also is my own interpretation on how to farm this effectively and if you think this is invalid, say it and I'll correct it.

Introduction

For a long time, we thought that dragon weight was a thing and it was capped at 450, whiule some of this was not wrong, the entire system however was in itself a bit bs. While the 450 value that was determined by the community was not wrong, it was not capped.

- The weight system official name is quality system.
- If you place 5 eyes and deal 0 damage to the drags, you automatically qualify for all drop that a dragon drop
- Some drop are affected by the amount of eye you place. (so that mean that 4 eye is not he best if you go for certain drop)
- The system instead of capping at 450, have no cap, however the highest item quality is 452 (dragon horn), followed by 451 (dragon claw) and 450 (drag pet + AotD)

Now that this is clear (or at least, I tried to make it clear about what is wrong), let's go to the next part.

How does drop work?

So right after the wiki released, they showed us some formula along with how drop work. First, they have a certain minimum of quality threshold that the player need to reach, which I will go trough later and the drop roll in this order:

- Dragon horn (30%, superior only)
- Dragon claw (2% * summoning eye placed, so 8 summoning eye mean 16%)
- EPIC Dragon pet (0.05% * summoning eye placed, so 8 summoning eye mean 0.4% (unless I did my math wrong lol))

- LEGENDARY Dragon pet (0.01% * summoning eye placed, so 8 summoning eye mean 0.08% (unless I did my math wrong lol))
- AotD (3% * summoning eye placed, so 8 summoning eyes mean 24%)
- The rest of the drop are all 30% and independant from the amount of eye placed (Armor, Dragon scale if young, Dragon nest warp if unstable)
- While any other drop above are unique (which mean only 1 player can drop it), stuff like fragment and pearl are not unique and will alway be rolled even after passing or failing all the above drop

Then this formula is applied for all item (except pet):

% of the item to drop * (1 + (Magic find / 100))

There is also this one that apply for AotD and Dragon claw

(Amount of summoning eye placed by the player * % of the item to drop) * (1 + (Magic find / 100))

Before going to all drags, I wanna apply this formula on Dragon horn and how you can essentially guarantee it from a superior dragon:
Dragon horn have a base drop rate of 30% and is alway rolled first on a superior dragon, see the problem? Lemme show you with a magic find of 234%

0.3 * (1 + (234 / 100)) -> 0.3 * (1+ (2.34)) -> 0.3 * 3.34 = 1.002

Since I worked the actual percentage, we know that with 234 magic find, the result will give over 1 (or 100%), this mean that on a superior dragon with over 234 MF, you are guaranteed to drop a horn (assuming you have over 452 quality, this formula also apply to drag armor rolled way later).

Now let's apply this to the rest (I'll assume here that 8 eye place, which mean you have 800 quality and I'll calculate it with exactly 200 MF).

So dragon claw (unique) goes like this:

(8 *0.02) * (1 + (200 / 100)) -> 0.16 * 3 = 0.48 (so 48%)

This mean that on any drags, with over 200 MF and 8 eyes, you have 48% to drop a claw.

Then the pet is rolled, however epic and legendary pet have an extra factor, pet luck, which is calculated like the following.

(Amount of summoning eye placed by the player * % of the pet to drop) * (1 + ((Magic find + Pet luck) / 100))

Knowing that epic dragon pet (unique) have an additional 0.05% (0.0005) per eye placed and leg drag pet (unique) have 0.01% (0.0001) per eye, lemme show you how you could in theory maxed out your chance on getting at least an epic dragon pet. (we'll be using 219 MF and 92 pet luck here and that is outside of diana, it also my actual stats with my legion sorrow, black cat and dae axe).

(8 *0.0005) * (1 + ((219 + 92)/ 100)) -> 0.004 * (1 + (311 / 100)) -> 0.004 * (1 + 3.11) -> 0.004 * (4.11) -> 0.01644 (so 1.644% for epic)

(8 *0.0001) * (1 + ((219 + 92)/ 100)) -> 0.0008 * (1 + (311 / 100)) -> 0.0008 * (1 + 3.11) -> 0.0008 * (4.11) -> 0.003288 (so 0.32% for legendary)

So this mean with over a total of 300 MF + Pet luck, you can bring your chance of getting an epic pet at 1.6%, if you wanna know how diana would affect this, add a flat 25 on pet luck and if you wanna know with jerry, do this forumla (Stats + (Stats * 0.1)), I am not gonna to do calculation for this, but you can probably bring very close to 2% during a jerry with jerry perk and a lot of legion.

Then after, AotD (unique) is rolled like this (coming back with our 200 MF):
(8 *0.03) * (1 + (200 / 100)) -> 0.24 * 3 = 0.72 (so 72%)

Finally, then rest of the drop are calculated like this and all have a base 30% to drop :
Chestplate -> 410 quality
Leggings -> 360 quality
Dragon scale -> 300 quality (Young drag only)
Helmet -> 295 quality
Boots -> 290 quality
Fragment -> 22 quality
Ender pearl -> 15 quality
Enchanted ender pearl -> 5 quality

So, how exactly is quality calculated? Well, thanks to wiki we actually have a formula which work like this :

View attachment 2927476

And if you wonder where the base quality is acquired, it use this table:
View attachment 2927478

So I'm gonna assume here that we get 1st place and placed 8 eyes and did 5m damage (using wiki number):

200 + (100 * (5000000 / 5000000)) + (100 * 8) -> 200 + (100 * 1) + (100 *8) -> 200 + 100 + 800 = 1100 player quality

So, knowing that the drop goes in a certain order and that each drop are unique, this mean with a player quality of 1100 we should be able to get multiple unique drop, right? Well no, when you succeed in getting a unique drop, this automatically disqualify you for other unique drop so what happen with the rest of the quality? Well, it is distributed between pearl and fragment, the more quality you have left, the more frags and pearl you will get!

Now, let's do the same calculation but instead of placing 8 eyes, we place 0 eyes:

200 + (100 * (5000000 / 5000000)) + 0 -> 200 + (100 * 1) -> 200 + 100 = 300 player quality

This mean that leeching drags and getting first place allow you to have 300 quality, what does this mean? Well, you can drop the following unique drop (the formula above apply)
- Dragon scale
- Helmet
- Boots

If however you do not place first place, well change the base quality of 200 with the one you have and the damage of the first place damager vs your damage and finally modify the amount of eye placed with the amount of eyes you actually placed to calculate your actual quality.

So now that this is over, what does this mean? Well, if you place 5 eyes or higher, you in theory do not need to damage the dragon at all to qualify for all the drops, but for safety mesure, I would still try to deal 1 damage Dragon Farming - Guide on dragon drop (using new wiki knowledge, math included) (1)

However, damage matter if you placed 4 eye, since we know that some of the quality is affect by the top damager damage vs your damage and also your placement. It also matter for people who leach since they'll try to aim for first place to be elligible for helmet, boot or scale.

Anyway, thanks to have come to my TED talk, if I missed anything, tell me and I'll add it here.
