It’s time for you to weigh in, Roasty reader. Where does your allegiance lie in the ‘which peanut butter brand is best’ argument? Are you crazy for Jif, or do you exclusively purchase Skippy? Or perhaps you’re a peanut butter lover who insists on keeping a jar of another brand’s product on your shelf.

While we’re curious to know what our readers are into (for the record, we’re Team Jif all the way), at the end of the day, it doesn’t particularly matter. What’s most important is your knowing that putting peanut butter in coffee is a genius idea, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you probably should.

A latte with peanut butter is a great way to get your fix whenever you crave this extra delicious nut butter. Plus, you’ll get a nice caffeine boost, too! Don’t you think that sounds great? We think so — that’s why we’re sharing this peanut butter latte recipe with you!

Perks of Peanut Butter

You probably already know there are some pretty impressive pros to consuming our favorite beverage (Coffee. Duh). But did you know there are perks to eating peanut butter, too — you know, besides the fact that it tastes good?

Don’t get too excited; that doesn’t mean the handful of peanut butter cups you scarfed down for breakfast does as much for you as a balanced meal could. But a tablespoon of peanut butter or two* blended into a smoothie, smeared on top of toast, or even mixed into your coffee can give you a dose of a few super-good-for-you nutrients, including:

  • 7.02 grams of protein
  • 57 milligrams of magnesium
  • 107 milligrams of phosphorus
  • 0.85 milligrams of zinc
  • 4.21 milligrams of niacin
  • 0.17 grams of vitamin B6

*All of these amounts are based on a two-tablespoon serving of peanut butter.

Additionally, studies show that eating peanut butter can boost heart health, help manage blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of breast disease, and more.

Just don’t overdo it. Eating hints of peanut butter now and then is fine, but if you, say, shovel an entire jar of the stuff into your mouth every time the mood strikes, you may be doing more harm than good, as peanut butter is high in calories, saturated fat, and sodium.

Peanut Butter Latte Recipe: Delicious Drink in 5 Steps (3)

Finally, we’ve gotten to the moment of truth: our recipe for peanut butter-flavored joe. Read on to find out how you can enjoy a rich peanut butter latte at home.

You’ll Need:

  • tall glass filled with ice
  • small bowl or cup
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon of your sweetener of choice (Pro-tip: liquid sweeteners work best here!)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • double shot of espresso
  • 1/8 cup creamer*

*This is optional, but we think a splash of this stuff can take an already delicious latte to the next level.

The Process:

Step 1:

Peanut Butter Latte Recipe: Delicious Drink in 5 Steps (4)

Start by scooping a tablespoon (or two…we’ll probably use two) of creamy peanut butter into a cup or small bowl.

Step 2:

Then, drizzle your liquid sweetener over the peanut butter. We used maple syrup, but honey or agave syrup work just as well.

Step 3:

Pour your milk of choice over the sweetener and peanut butter mixture, then stir it all with a spoon, fork, or handheld frother until it’s smooth. Non-dairy or regular milk work just as well in this recipe. The choice is yours, but we used almond milk.

Step 4:

Now’s the fun part: brewing the coffee! Take out your trusty espresso machine (Shopping around for one? Let us help; check out our espresso machine buying guide here.) and your favorite batch of finely ground dark roast beans and pull a double shot.

Step 5:

Pour the milk, peanut butter, and sweetener mixture into your ice-filled glass, and top it off with espresso. You can stop the recipe here and sip your peanut butter coffee now, but if you want to add a little something extra to your cup, add a splash of your favorite creamer (FYI, hazelnut works well in this drink).

Enjoy!

There you have it, a solution for when the peanut butter craving hits. We’re sure any coffee lover with a peanut butter addiction will love this special treat any time of day. And if you’re planning to serve up a cup of creamy peanut butter coffee on a colder day, skip the ice and make the drink hot; it still hits the spot.

Pro-tip: take the drink to the next level by drizzling some chocolate syrup into the mix and making a peanut butter mocha — it’s like a Reese’s cup in a cup.
