The Blackstone Griddle has become our favorite ways to cook many different recipes. We love the large flat top that is perfect for my large family. It is the perfect space to cook these smashed potatoes.

Potatoes make the perfect side dishes for many recipes. We love these smashed potatoes because of the crispy edges and soft on the inside. My family loves that they can top them in a variety of ways.

Change up your potatoes and make these crispy smashed potatoes. We have made these in the oven before, but the flavor the Blackstone gives them is our favorite. Also try Blackstone Loaded Hashbrowns.

What is Smashed Potatoes:

Smashed Baby Potatoes is a combination of a bake potatoes and fried potatoes. After boiling baby potatoes and the grill is hot with oil on it, then place the potatoes on the griddle.

Once the potatoes on the griddle, smash with a bacon press to flatten the potatoes. Make sure not to move the potatoes around to much as they can break apart. Allowing to get hot on the griddle, will give them a crispy texture.

Ingredients:

  • Baby Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter
  • Olive Oil

How to Make Blackstone Smashed Potatoes:

  • Boil Potatoes – Add the potatoes to a large pot and cover them with salted water. Bring the water to a boil and boil the potatoes for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender.
  • Drain – Drain the potatoes and allow them to cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Blackstone – Heat the Blackstone Griddle to medium heat to high heat.
  • Add Butter to Griddle – Place the butter on the griddle and spread it out with a spatula.
  • Add Potatoes to Griddle and Press – Then place the cooked potatoes on the Blackstone grill and press them down with a cast iron press or your spatula.

  • Season the Smashed Potatoes – Top the potatoes with half of the oil, salt and pepper. Cook for a few minutes (3-5 minutes) until the potatoes are golden brown.

  • Continue Cooking Potatoes – Then flip the potatoes, season the other side with the oil and butter, salt and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes until golden brown.

  • Size of Potatoes – The cooking time will vary based on the size of your potatoes, so use your best judgement on when to flip the potatoes.
  • Let Potatoes Cook – When you smashed potatoes on the griddle, make sure you let them cook without moving around. This creates a crispy texture.
  • Dry Potatoes – Make sure you allow the potatoes to dry before placing on the griddle. This will help create a crispier texture.

We prefer to use the small potatoes. These are usually ones that are in a bag in the produce section. They are the perfect size as the cook quickly and they smash just right. You can use the red or yellow ones.

The inside of the potatoes comes out soft and creamy.

How do you Store and Reheat the Leftovers:

Refrigerate any leftover potatoes in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
