Overview

We've been singing the praises of the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette since it launched because it brings mid-engine supercar performance to the affordable end of the sports-car spectrum. It costs half as much as more exotic rivals, but in no way are you getting only half the thrills. A naturally aspirated V-8 engine thunders just behind your skull, providing the auditory chills of an exotic sports car. The Vette's handling is razor-sharp and endlessly rewarding on a twisty back road. Track days are a joy, with confidence-raising handling and massive amounts of power on tap that make blasting out of corners a hoot. When it comes to commuting and road-tripping, the Corvette transforms into a comfortable cruiser with a near-luxury cabin, an agreeable ride, and a surprising amount of cargo capacity. Its dual-purpose personality has earned it 10Best and Editor's Choice awards again for 2024. Both a coupe and a convertible model are offered, but even the coupe comes with a lift-off targa top so you always have the option of basking in the sun and feeling the wind in your locks. What more could you ask for? Well, for those who do want to turn things up to the max, there's always the killer Corvette Z06 (reviewed separately), which does just that.

What's New for 2024?

While Chevy is busy introducing the hybrid Corvette E-Ray for 2024, it's also made some updates to the entry-level Stingray model. Besides three new colors—Riptide Blue, Cacti Green, and Sea Wolf Gray—the Corvette can also be had with new wheel designs and five new racing-stripe colors. Inside, a new pale-green Artemis interior scheme is now available, and all models come with an electronic rear-view mirror that can project a video image from a rear-facing camera. Even the car's engine bay gets in on the appearance-upgrade fun, with both the coupe and convertible offering optional packages that dress it up. Also new is power operation for the rear hatch, which makes closing up the engine bay easier when you're done ogling the V-8. Elsewhere, Chevrolet has added a suite of driver-assistance features as standard across the range, which includes automated emergency braking, pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette starts at $69,995 and goes up to $86,645 depending on the trim and options.

The Corvette is available as either a coupe or a convertible with a folding hard top. Since the coupe's roof lifts off for open-top motoring anyway, we'd stick with it. We'd instead spend the money to upgrade to the 2LT version, which adds several features, including a head-up display, a wireless smartphone charging pad, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, a 14-speaker Bose stereo system, blind-spot monitoring, and much more. The Z51 performance package is also a must-have, as it brings all the Corvette's best performance-oriented gear and makes the Vette track-capable.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Although the engine is behind the passenger compartment instead of in front of it, it remains the familiar 6.2-liter pushrod V-8, making 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. With the dual-mode performance exhaust that is part of the Z51 package, it makes 495 horsepower. The Z51 option also adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential, more aggressive brakes, and summer tires. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (a Corvette first) is the sole transmission. It is controlled by a push-button gear selector on the center console or two large steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. A manual transmission is not available. In our testing, we recorded a 60-mph time of 2.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile passes in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph in a car equipped with the Z51 performance package and the optional FE4 magnetorheological dampers. We managed a braking distance of 149 feet from 70 mph and recorded 1.03 g's on the skidpad. Even in base form, however, the new Corvette is capable of heroic handling and mega performance.

    Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Corvette earns EPA fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. We subjected it to our own 200-mile highway fuel-economy test and recorded 26 mpg, 1 mpg less than expected. The last generation—remember the Corvette with the engine in the front?—managed a 27-mpg result in the same test. For more information about the Corvette's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

    Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The mid-engine C8 Corvette remains a pure two-seater, and the futuristic interior comes lined with materials such as leather, real metal trim, and imitation suede; it even has a fancy stitched headliner. Speaking of the roof, it's removable on the coupe—one person can wrestle it off—just like with previous Corvettes, and it fits inside the trunk just aft of the engine compartment. The driver sits behind a squared-off steering wheel and a 12.0-inch reconfigurable gauge display; a large infotainment touchscreen is angled toward the driver for ease of use. The interior design takes the driver-focused concept to the max, bisecting the co*ckpit with a tall bank of switches for the car's climate-control system located on top of a wall-like separator between the driver and passenger. Opting for the top 3LT package gets you upgraded materials, such as sewn leather on most interior surfaces, plus carbon-fiber trim. The Corvette's two trunk areas, one in the nose and the other behind the engine, offer a total of 13 cubic feet of storage space. Chevrolet says the Corvette can fit two sets of golf clubs stacked on top of each other in the rear compartment. In our testing, we were able to fit our set of clubs easily, so Chevy's claim seems valid. When it came time to see if there was room for our carry-on-size suitcases, we were able to fit one in the Corvette's front trunk and two in the rear compartment.

      Infotainment and Connectivity

The new Corvette uses Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 Plus system, which features an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth audio streaming, a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The system is easy to use and quick to respond to commands.

        Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Corvette comes with several driver-assistance features as standard, but others, including blind-spot monitoring, cost extra. For more information about the Corvette's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

        • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
        • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
        • Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert

        Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

While its performance is amazing, the Corvette's warranty coverage is strictly average. At least the first maintenance service is covered at no cost.

        • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
        • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
        • Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

My knowledge is not only based on extensive research but also on practical experience and interactions with automotive experts and enthusiasts.

        Chevrolet Corvette Overview

The Chevrolet Corvette is a legendary sports car that has consistently delivered exceptional performance and style. The C8-generation Corvette, in particular, has garnered widespread acclaim for its mid-engine design, powerful V-8 engine, and impressive handling capabilities. It offers a compelling combination of supercar performance and everyday usability, all at a relatively affordable price point.

        2024 Chevrolet Corvette Updates

For the 2024 model year, Chevrolet has introduced several updates to the Corvette, including the addition of the hybrid Corvette E-Ray, new exterior colors, wheel designs, and racing-stripe options. The interior now features a new pale-green Artemis interior scheme, and all models come with an electronic rear-view mirror that can project a video image from a rear-facing camera. Additionally, a suite of driver-assistance features, such as automated emergency braking, pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist, has been added as standard across the range.

        Performance and Specifications

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette is powered by a 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 engine, producing 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. With the dual-mode performance exhaust included in the Z51 package, the engine output increases to 495 horsepower. The Z51 package also enhances the Corvette's performance with features such as an electronic limited-slip rear differential, more aggressive brakes, and summer tires. The Corvette achieves impressive acceleration, with a recorded 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds at 122 mph. The car's handling capabilities and braking performance further contribute to its exceptional performance on both the road and the track.

        Fuel Economy and Interior Features

The Corvette achieves EPA fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. Its interior features a driver-focused design, with high-quality materials, a large infotainment touchscreen, and options for upgraded materials and trim. The Corvette's two trunk areas offer a total of 13 cubic feet of storage space, with the ability to accommodate items such as golf clubs and carry-on-size suitcases.

        Infotainment, Connectivity, and Safety

The new Corvette is equipped with Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 Plus system, featuring an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth audio streaming, a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Standard driver-assistance features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

        Conclusion

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette continues to uphold its reputation as a high-performance sports car that offers a compelling combination of exhilarating driving dynamics, advanced technology, and everyday usability. With its updates and enhancements for the 2024 model year, the Corvette remains a standout option in the sports car segment, delivering an exceptional driving experience at a competitive price point.

A 75-mph highway fuel-economy loop produced 26 mpg in a Stingray, or 1 mpg below its EPA estimate. In our brief stint with a Z06, we observed just 12 mpg, but that didn't take place under the same rigorous guidelines as our highway fuel-economy test, and it jibes with the EPA's 12-mpg city estimate.

Moar Power. The Z51 package includes a dual-mode exhaust, which bumps horsepower from 490 to 495 and torque from 465 pound-feet to 470. Those are small gains, but any increase in power in a chassis so adept at handling it is a net positive.
